Open Innovation: the concept and how to realise it
March 17 13:00 - 14:30 - Zuilenzaal
Speakers: Gerjan van de Walle (Director Business Development MiPlaza Philips Research) and Charles Leadbeater (writer and policy adviser); Moderator: Frans Nauta (Chairman Knowledgeland think-tank)
The time of industrial innovation models is over. No longer does innovation only take place within knowledge institutions or company laboratories. Innovation has become an open process of constantly making new combinations. New players like intermediary institutions, small companies and creative individuals enter the field. Separate domains become networked. Innovation is open, crossovers are crucial. What are the success criteria for such creative crossovers to take place? What are new models for innovation? What role does culture play in this process? And the public domain? In this interactive session we think along with Gerjan van der Walle and Charles Leadbeater about the concept of open innovation an how to realise it.
Frans Nauta (chairman Knowledgeland thinktank) will first interview Gerjan van der Walle (director Business Development MiPlaza Philips Research). He will be asked how Philips is realising the concept of open innovation on the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. Charles Leadbeater will respond to this and on that basis of the lessons he will formulate some challenges for realising open innovation. Finally, with the participants a discussion takes places which strategies can be developed for open innovation. And what should be mentioned in the public agenda with respect to open innovation?
